Create your Certificate for SmartcomGps

(all procedures take about one minute)

1. Register at http://www.symbiansigned.com , Fill in the necessary data.
note) in the field "Are you associated with company?" choose [NO]
**) don't use an email address from public email services such as Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, Hotmail.com etc..

2. Activate your account (the activation link will be sent by email, you specified at the register form)
*) Press that link to activate your account

3. Log in and at the "Developer's Certificate" sheet, Add your correct IMEI number

4. When your IMEI is present in the IMEI's table, press "Download Certificate"
*) download a RAR file onto your PC

5. Now you have your phone's certificate and ready to use with Smartcomgps.

Sometimes you don't have a gps map when it's really needed. Let's do it weird way.

All We need:
a) cell phone (I used Nokia 6110 Navigator with installed SmartcomGPS on it);
b) any PC to convert a raster image into ogf2 format (I found the one in the Inet-cafe
connected my cellphone to its USB to convert a picture into Ogf2 using ogf2tool);
c) Ogf2tool (any raster image converter into Ogf2 that supported by SmartcomGPS)
d) Map calibration the way I described here

If you're in the jungle, You are in trouble.
This post won't help you at all. You outta prepare better before then.

1. Try to find any map (wall map, paper map at the book store, street map etc...)
Found! then unfold it flat and take a picture using a cell phone camera in the photo mode.

*) Lens has a focal diffraction, and to improve a raster image, take one picture of a white list with black grid for that (to change a field curvature) to make in the Photoshop a map image more flattened to get same shape as an original one.
I didn't use that so it's skipped...

2. Turn on a PC, connect your phone by USB to it (or just use a flash card or flash drive instead)
I have an ogf2tool the lite version (no need installation, it goes with any version of Smartcomgps), Copy a map image onto PC and run ogf2tool to convert into ogf2 file. after it's done, copy your ogf2 into a map directory on your phone.

3. At this point you have a map image that needs a calibration. I wrote a post about that here

4. Hubla-Bubla.... and I had a map, not a masterpiece of course, but better than nothing.

How to calibrate a map

Few tips on how to calibrate a map or update its georeference.

First thing first, Convert a needed raster image (map) into *.ogf2 format (you can download the ogf2tool from here)

Copy a .ogf2 file into “smartcomgps\maps” folder and open it.
SmartcomGPS asks you to calibrate that map image. Choose "OK".

!)There are many ways to calibrate a map, here're two of them [MAP]->[Calibrate] of SmartComGPS

1. a) Find a place on the map where you are standing with the GPS =ON (recommended any intersection),
b) Assign a calibration point to it on a map.
c) Choose the "using the output data from the GPS-receiver". Fill coordinates in to that calibration point.
d) Then drive to another place( intersection/crossroad) and locate that position on a map.
e) Repeat the above procedure from (b) one more time.
*) it's recommended to setup atleast 3 good calibration points.

2. Almost same as above but instead of using GPS-reciver you can input coordinates manually.
*) Of course if you know the exact coordinates of needed place (crossroads etc..)
a) Assign a calibration point for that spot and attach correct coordinates of a calibration point that you specify on a map.
b) Repeat that step again with another calibration point.
*) minimum 3 calibration points.

p.s. don't use corners of your map for calibration points.

Symbian's devcert (the easy way)

Described in five (5) simple steps, how to get your phone's certificate (devcert files).

1. Go to http://cer.opda.cn/en/?action=login and register (pic.1a). Fill out the form and press "Sumbit and Reg." button.
*) UPDATED here's the new link http://www.shoujizu.net/en/login and register. (procedure overthere is almost the same as below, but takes 3-5 days to download .cer, .key files or for 3 bucks almost immediately) no need to pay or wait too long, (read below right after the *** mark).

a. Account - Any nickname
b. Password - you know that it is
c. Password confirmation - same password as above
d. Email - Your email address
e. Save code - Input here a code from a pic that at the right side of this field.

2. Log into your newly created account (pic.2a)
*) if you've just created an account, you'll be automatically redirected to the login page.

3. Apply for a certificate.
After a successful log in, Press the "APPLY CER" button, then You need to fill out a form. (pic.3a)
*) fields of this form described below.
a. Model - any text (keep it short)
b. IMEI - your phone's correct IMEI number (dial *#06# to get it)
c. Confirm IMEI - same IMEI as above
d. Remark - any text (keep it short)

4. Log out, and await for a certificate. It may take around 24 hours (sometimes less).

5. To check if your certificate is ready. Log into your account for that and look at the "STATE" column (pic.5a). When marked "green" then You can download *.CER and *.KEY onto your PC (download "cer","key" files one by one).

***) right click the "cer" link and copy URL, open another browser's window and paste that link, then instead of "en/check_cer" in the link you need to type "en/down_cer" the rest of url leave unchanged. Press "enter" button and download a cer file. The same procedure with a key file.

6. Now you've got a devcert files (*.CER, *.KEY) for your phone.

Install Smartcomgps v.1.55 on Nokia E66

Few steps before installation of SmartComGPS ver.1.56
note) for correct installation of SmartComGPS with internal GPS support,
you need to complete the steps described below. (from #1 to #7)
IMPORTANT) on the phone has to be installed
the file manager software
X-plore version 1.22 or newer

1. Download, unpack the RAR-archive on your PC and copy the folder "CERTKIT-v9.2" that contains two files onto your phone's SD card.
to download, click here

2. Open the file "Hellocarbide.sis" from the folder "CERTKIT-v9.2" on your phone,
to begin the installation process (see pic.2a-f)

3. In the application X-plore go to Menu -> Tools -> Configuration
and mark two field in the configuration dialog box.

v) Show Hidden files
v) Show system files/folders

4. !!!) Don't close the X-plore (just leave it in the background mode) see pic.5a

4.1) press the keyboard MENU button, go to [Installations]
4.2) find and start the Hellocarbide (see pic.4a)
4.3) choose [Options] -> Menu 1 (see pic.4b-c)
4.4) for all next dialog boxes press "YES" (see pic.4d-f)
*) be patient, there'll be around 82 "YES" dialog boxes
**) the last "YES" closes the application and you're back at [Installations] screen (see pic.4a)

5. Go back to X-plore (hope it's not closed and hanging in the background mode)Press and hold the keyboard's MENU button for 2 sec.
in popup menu, choose the X-plore. (see pic.5a)

5.1) Copy the file "installserver.exe" from the folder CERTKIT-v9.2\
to the path C:\sys\bin\ (verify that it's copied to the needed destination)
5.2) Exit the application X-plore

6. Turn OFF / ON the phone.

7. Deinstall the application Hellocarbide.

keyboard's [MENU] button -> [Tools] -> [Installations] -> [App.mgr.] ->
from the list pickup Hellocarbide -> Options -> Remove

8. If you haven't downloaded SmartComGPS version 1.56 yet, then click here.
Unpack the RAR-file on your PC and copy the file "Smartcomgps-s60v3-internal-gps-unsigned.sis" to a phone's SD card.

9. Install the application (see pic.9a-e), activate a trial version at
smartcomgps.gpswildmap.com

Then input a registration code into SmartComGPS -> Menu -> Register.

10. Copy a map to the path E:\data\SmartcomGPS\maps\

To turn on the internal GPS support. Go to SmartComGPS -> Menu -> Settings -> Main -> Use internal GPS (yes).
then exit the application and start SmartComGPS again.

*) Internal gps-receiver is connected automaticaly when the application is started and disconnected when with its exit.

How to get Symbian's Devcert file

NOTE: It takes around few minutes to submit the needed forms.
Your devcert files will be ready for download in 24 hr time (approx)
1. Register a new account

Follow this link (it opens in a new browser's window) to sign up for a new account at Opda forum.

a). at the right corner of a main forum page click on [ Register ] (see pic.1.a)

b).On a Register page. Scroll down and click a left button to accept (see pic.1b)

c).You get a registeration form page. Fill in correctly and Submit it. (see pic.1c)

Don't forget to memorize your access info. You'll need it when to login later.

d). After submitting a registeration form, you'll see a confirmation window (see pic.1d)

and in few seconds be redirected to a main page of the forum.

2. How to Login / Logout
After you registered at a forum, Later you may need to access your newly created account to check availability of your cert files.

a). When you are on Opda forum next time and you need to login. Click a character that red marked on pic.2.a

b). On this stage, input your login and password and press the red marked button to login (see pic.2.b)

c). to logout (see pic.2.c)

3. Put a request for a certificate
To put a request you should login first (see step 2)

a). move over your mouse cursor a character with red figure (A) for a pop-down menu to appear, click on a red marked symbol at (B) level (see pic.3.a)

b). On a certificate request form you need to input your phone's IMEI number (dial a string *#06# to see it) and a phone number (any 11 digit long number, but starting with 13,15,18).
and click on a red marked button to submit /click once - don't hit it repeatedly/ (see pic.3.b)

c). After a submit button clicked in few seconds you've got a screen (see pic.3.c) and in another few ones be redirected to a new page (see pic.3.d)

d). on that page called "My certificates" you can see when your files are ready for download and download them (see pic.3.d)
in the status column: Red character (means in proccess), Green character (means ready).

4. When cert files are ready, download them
In this try our certificate files were ready for download in 8 hours time from the actually submitting a request form. sometimes it can be longer (about 24 hours)

Go checking, Login into Forum, Make sure that you're on "My certificates" sheet (pic.4.a) and If you cert files are ready. download them

a). go to "Download" column -> click on a red character (see pic.4.a) -> and download ONE BY ONE both .CER and .KEY file -> specify a folder and copy them into the same directory (see pic.4.b)

5. SmartcomGPS + CER files
Here comes the final part. to get a version of SmartcomGPS working on your phone with internal GPS support download this rar-archive onto your PC and unpack it. You've got 7 files including SmartCom's unsigned version /taken from smartcomgps.gpswildmap.com/ "Smartcomgps-s60v3-internal-gps-unsigned.sis" (see pic.5.a)

a). Well it doesn't matter, but I copied a phone's certificate (CER, KEY filles) at the same directory (see pic.5.b)
to illustrate all things that we need further.

b). start SignSIS-GUI.exe (marked red on pic.5.a) and in SignSIS do the following (pic.5.c)
in "General Settings"

browse to our .CER file (to folder shown on pic.5.b);

"Key file" browse to a .KEY file (to folder shown on pic.5.b);

on "Key" make it value "12345678";
in "Output filename settings"

mark the "Remove unsigned from the filename" that we'll be able to find a signed version of SmartComGPS;

"Delete source file" leave it blank - in case if something goes wrong our source version won't be deleted;
in the Symbian OS installer file box

"Input sis(x)" browse to "Smartcomgps-s60v3-internal-gps-unsigned.sis" (to folder shown on pic.5.b)

"Output sis(x)", by default, will be "Smartcomgps-s60v3-internal-gps-_signed.sis" (same folder as "Input sis");

After all set press the SignSIS button

c). Install the signed version of SmartComGPS on your phone.
